History & Evolution
The idea of a “Women’s Tour de France” dates back to 1955. After several incarnations (1984-1989), the race was reborn in 2022 thanks to ASO & Zwift. Winners so far: van Vleuten (2022), Vollering (2023) and Niewiadoma (2024). In 2025 the race expands from 8 to 9 days and keeps climbing: broadcast in 190 countries, 17M viewers in France (2024 record), family crowds (65%), and a +20% rise in French Cycling Federation female licensees between 2021 and 2024.
Each year the queen stage gets a new icon: Planche des Belles Filles (2022) → Tourmalet (2023) → Alpe d’Huez (2024) → Madeleine & Joux Plane (2025). A unique 2025 calendar tweak overlaps two days with the men’s Tour to maximize cross-audience reach.
